John O. Potts was born on August 9, 1921, in Corinth, Alcorn County, Mississippi. He was the son of Henry Clay Potts and Margaret Clark. He enlisted in the service on January 6, 1944. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Potts was Killed in Action on September 3, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Henry Cemetery, Corinth, Alcorn County, Mississippi, USA.
