Harold James Pembroke was born on September 2, 1914, in Muenster, Cooke County, Texas. He was the son of Alton Marion Pembroke and Ida Lou Sark Pembroke. He was married to Rebecca Blanche Cochran Pembroke-Buck. He entered the U.S. Army on January 19, 1944. After training, he was sent overseas in late June 1944, departing Fort George G. Meade on June 29. He served in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Pembroke was Killed in Action on August 27, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Mountain Park Cemetery, Saint Jo, Montague County, Texas, USA.
