Floyd Norwood was born on December 25, 1916, in Medina Township, Warren County, Indiana. He was the son of George Elsworth Norwood and Eliza Belle Roudebush Norwood. He was married to Elizabeth Mildred Pearson Holyfield. He worked at the aluminum plant before entering the service on October 28, 1943. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Norwood was Killed in Action on August 28, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
