Thomas Joseph Murray Jr. was born on November 13, 1911, in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Thomas Joseph Murray Sr. and Rosamond V. "May" Vinnecombe Murray. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Murray was Killed in Action on August 30, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, D�partement de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
