John Edwin Munro was born on March 18, 1922, in Miami-Dade County, Florida. He was the son of Albert Munro and Emmieline Albury Munro. He served in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Munro was Killed in Action on September 3, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
