George Alvis Minick was born on May 17, 1925, in Porter, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Norman John Minich I and Leora Elizabeth Yoder Minich. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 30, 1943, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, reporting a grammar school education and experience as a farm hand. He was deployed to the European Theater with the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, which landed in Normandy on June 7, 1944, one day after D-Day, and later fought in major campaigns across France and Germany.

Pvt Minick was Killed in Action on August 29, 1944, during the Battle for Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
