Harry Edward Madsen was born on November 14, 1910, in Waltham, Mower County, Minnesota. He was the son of Hans Jorgen Madsen and Anna Elisabeth Larsen Madsen. He served in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Sergeant during World War II.

Sgt Madsen was Killed in Action on August 27, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
