John Lehan was born in 1905, in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Michael "Wassil" Lehan and Mary Lehan. He attended the Foster Town High School and belonged to the Hazleton chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enlisted in the service on March 6, 1940. He served with the Rangers early in the war but was medically discharged several months ago after suffering severe scalds to his legs. The injuries occurred while he was riding in a mobile kitchen during maneuvers, when a pan of boiling water overturned onto him. He served in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.
Pvt Lehan was Killed in Action on August 31, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
