Lloyd Eugene Lathrom was born on September 23, 1920, in Rayborn, Wright County, Missouri. He was the son of John Henry Lathrom and Mary Lucinda Riley. He was married to Ida Purgerson. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Lathrom was Killed in Action on August 26, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
