Julian Wrenn “Whitey” Jarvis was born on January 13, 1925, in Bladensburg, Prince George's County, Maryland. He was the son of Maurice Henry Jarvis and Julia May Wrenn Jarvis. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Sergeant during World War II.

Sgt Jarvis was Killed in Action on August 30, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
