Joseph Bernard Hall was born on April 1, 1922, in Saint Lawrence, Hand County, South Dakota. He was the son of Charles Frederick Hall and Frances Koeck Hall. He attended high school in Polo, graduating in 1940. He enlisted in the service in November 1942. He served in the 709th Tank Battalion as a Technician 5th Grade during World War II.

T5 Hall was Killed in Action on August 25, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
