Francis Lester “Frank” Gabelman was born on April 4, 1911, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of George Frederick Gabelman and Lillian Caroline "Carrie" Bräutigam Gabelman. He served in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Gabelman was Killed in Action on September 1, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
