Knut Friberg was born on September 1, 1911, in Väse, Karlstads kommun, Värmlands län, Sweden. He was the son of Carl Johansson Friberg and Maria Karlsson. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Friberg was Killed in Action on August 30, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
