Justus Sylvester Flint was born on June 2, 1917, in Broughton, Paulding County, Ohio. He was the son of Jesse Flint and Essa Ledora Doster Flint. He was married to Carrie Gertrude Tinlin Keck. He enlisted in the service on June 10, 1941. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Staff Sergeant during World War II.

SSgt Flint was Killed in Action on September 2, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
