Lonie Dement was born on May 30, 1915, in Egypt, Craighead County, Arkansas. He was the son of James Hillman Dement and Evaline Thomason Dement. He was married to Mary Parnell McElroy Dement. He enlisted in the service on October 15, 1943. He served in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Dement was Killed in Action on September 3, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
