Joseph Raymond De Mint was born on January 4, 1919, in Lincoln, South Dakota. He was the son of Robert Joseph "Bob" De Mint and Blanche Edmondson De Mint. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Staff Sergeant during World War II.

SSgt De Mint was Killed in Action on August 30, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
