Daniel Frederick Crist was born on May 9, 1922, in Shelby, Richland County, Ohio. He was the son of Ray Crist Sr. and Lydia Mae Lewis Crist. He served in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Technical Sergeant during World War II.

TSgt Crist was Killed in Action on August 28, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Nashville Presbyterian Cemetery, Nashville, Holmes County, Ohio, USA.
