James Albert Cole was born on December 6, 1923, in Edmonson County, Kentucky. He was the son of James David Cole and Josie Louisia Cross Cole. He served in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.
Pvt Cole was Killed in Action on August 29, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
