James Leon Beech was born on November 10, 1916, in Marcus Hook, Delaware, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Paul Benjamin Beech and Laura Johnson. He was married to Alice Evelyn Smith. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Beech was Killed in Action on September 2, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, USA.
