Joseph Edwin Balagna was born on April 25, 1925, in Ca�on City, Fremont County, Colorado. He was the son of John Paul Balagna Sr. and Mary T. Vezzetti Balagna. He graduated from Holy Cross Abbey. He entered the army in July 1943. He served in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Balagna was Killed in Action on August 31, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Lakeside Cemetery, Ca�on City, Fremont County, Colorado, USA.
