Archie Floyd Averitte was born on March 2, 1908, in Farmerville, Union Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of Floyd Wilkins Averitte and Willie Ora Albritton Averitte. He was married to Inez Averitte Langston Foehr. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Technical Sergeant during World War II.

TSgt Averitte was Killed in Action on September 2, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
