Rufo N. Aquino was born on May 26, 1917, in Queens, Queens County, New York. He was the son of Michael Aquino and Jeannette Pietrantonio. He was married to Amelia Martina. He enlisted in the service on April 10, 1941. He served in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Sergeant during World War II.

Sgt Aquino was Killed in Action on August 27, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Cypress Hills National Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, USA.
