Eugene A. Piatti was born on April 23, 1922, in Iron Mountain, Dickinson County, Michigan. He was the son of John Piatti and Rachel C. Cogolani Rehn. He was married to Alice Brackett. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church, graduated from Norway High School, played football and basketball, joined the school band, and later worked at Asselin Creamery before enlisting on November 11, 1942.
Serving in England with the 585th Bomb Squadron of the 394th Bomb Group, he flew as a Staff Sergeant and Engineer Gunner in B-26 #42-96032. He was killed in action in Europe on April 8, 1944, in a forced landing crash at RAF Great Dunmow (USAAF Station 164) in Essex, England.
SSgt Piatti is now buried in the Norway Township Cemetery, Norway, Dickinson County, Michigan, USA.
