Robert Parkhurst Luce was born on December 24, 1916, in Belfast, Waldo County, Maine. He was the son of Frank Benjamin Luce and Ola M. Heal Luce. He was married to Catherine Scribner Luce. He attended Crosby High School. He worked as a driver before enlisting in the service on June 27, 1942. He served in the 587th Bomb Squadron, 394th Bomb Group, Medium, as a Technical Sergeant and Radio Operator Gunner on a B-26 Marauder, based in England during World War II.

TSgt Luce was Killed in Action on May 7, 1944, during a bombing mission in France. He is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial, Coton, South Cambridgeshire District, Cambridgeshire, England. He also has a cenotaph in the Grove Cemetery, Belfast, Waldo County, Maine, USA.
