He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, with dependents. Benjamin served as a Private First Class in the 16th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II. He resided in Oxford County, Maine prior to the war. Benjamin was "Killed In Action" in Germany during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
