Edward Clement Mack was born on June 15, 1900, in Nanticoke, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Jozef (Mack) Mackiewicz and Victoria Twardowski Mackiewicz. He was married to Nancy Isabel Hassig Mack. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1925. He served in the Headquarters, U.S. Forces in the Philippines (Infantry) as a Lieutenant Colonel during World War II.

Following the fall of the Philippines, LTC Mack was taken prisoner and later transported to Japan on one of the infamous “hell ships.” He survived the perilous journey but was confined at Fukuoka POW Camp #3 (Yawata) on Kyushu Island, where he died on April 9, 1945. He is now buried in the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth County, Kansas, USA.
