Alejandro Da Jose Garcia was born on February 9, 1898, in Quezon, Nueva Ecija Province, Central Luzon, Philippines. He was a West Point graduate of the Class of 1923, served with the 24th Field Artillery Regiment, Philippine Scouts, as a Major, and briefly as Superintendent of the Philippine Military Academy in 1940.
During World War II, he fought in the defense of Bataan and endured the Bataan Death March, later escaping from Camp O’Donnell despite severe illness. Garcia recovered and joined the guerrilla resistance against Japan, but was eventually captured, tortured, and executed in Manila on December 31, 1944. He was buried in a common grave, and the location of his grave is unknown.
Major Garcia’s name is memorialized in the Tablets of the Missing in the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Manila, Capital District, National Capital Region, Philippines.
