John Knowlton Fisk was born on August 31, 1896, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of Arthur Newell Fisk and Florence Overmeyer Fisk. He served in the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (Eastern Ontario Regiment), as a Private during World War I.

Pvt Fisk was killed in action during a charge on German trenches on October 30, 1917. He is now buried in the Tyne Cot Cemetery, Passchendaele, Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium.
