George Frederick Chase was born on July 24, 1884, in Perham, Aroostook County, Maine. He was the son of George H. Chase and Charlotte Jane Hammond Chase. He served in the 8th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment), as a Private during World War I.

Pvt Chase died from his wounds received in battle on November 13, 1917, in Belgium. He is now buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinge, Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium.
