Achille Carlisle Tisdelle Jr. was born on March 17, 1909, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of Retta Mary Cantwell Tisdelle. He was married to Margot Massee Tisdelle. He served in the 26th Cavalry Regiment, Philippine Scouts, as a Major during World War II.
Maj Achille was the Aide-de-Camp to General Edward P. King during the campaign in Bataan and accompanied him during surrender negotiations with Japanese Colonel Nakayama in Bataan, Philippines on April 9, 1942. He was held as a prisoner of war at the Fukuoka Branch Camp #17 in Omuta on Kyushu Island, Japan from 1943 to 1945.
After his liberation from Japanese captivity in 1945, Major Tisdelle resumed his military career and continued to serve in the U.S. Army and was promoted to the rank of Colonel. Tisdelle's wartime experiences, particularly his time as a prisoner of war, were documented in his diary, which was later published in the journal Military Affairs in 1947. Col Tisdelle passed away on April 30, 1986. Currently, we don't have details about his burial.
