Todd Alexander Zephier was born on January 8, 1962, in Yankton, Yankton County, South Dakota. He was the son of Alexander Zane Zephier and Concetta Wright. He enlisted in the US Army on May 27, 1982. He served in Battery C, 3rd Battalion, 84th Field Artillery Regiment, as a Sergeant during the Cold War.
On January 11, 1985, a Pershing II missile's first stage exploded during an assembly at Camp Redleg in Heilbronn, Germany, killing three U.S. Army soldiers including Sgt Zephier, and injuring sixteen others. He is now buried in the Saint Pauls Cemetery, Marty, Charles Mix County, South Dakota, USA.
