Born September 21, 1924 in Sellinsgrave, PA. . SSG Wagner served as the Tail Gunner on B-24 (42-95144) ' European Clipper' of the 565th Bomber Squadron, 389th Bomber Group; Pilot 1st Lt Herschell R. Chappell. On its way to the target 42-95144 collided with B 24J 42-100351 that was flying above it. 42-100351 lost a propeller and crashed shortly after. 42-95144 lost its tail section and went into a spinning dive which ended whith the aircraft crashing in the sea approximately 2 kilometres southeast of Kelsnor lighthouse on the island of Langeland. In the tail section gunner S/Sgt Jack K. Wagner tried to get out of his turret and put on his parachute. Sergent Wagner was killed in the crash. On 8/7 a Danish civilian found the body of Rear gunner S/Sgt Jack E. Wagner washed ashore on the east end of Ærøs hale on the island of Ærø. On 11/7 at 06:45 he was laid to rest in Marstal new cemetery with military honors. He still rests there to this day. Source: Airway Over Denmark.
