Thomas served as a Staff Sergeant & Right Waist Gunner on B-17G (#42-38191), 350th Bomber Squadron, 100th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He resided in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on February 20, 1943 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the building of aircraft and also as Single, without dependents. He was married after his enlistment and a plot with Thomas was saved for her. (Name Unknown) Thomas was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 was shot down by enemy fighters and crashed into the Baltic Sea off the island of Lolland, Denmark during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart. He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on February 10, 1949. A cenotaph remembers him where he ws buried in Denmark.
