Harold Douglas Griffith was born on July 30, 1925, in Roanoke, Roanoke City, Virginia. He was the son of Milton Palmer Griffith and Edna V. Griffith.

Harold served in the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 7, 1944, during the liberation of Vire, France. Pvt Griffith is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Departement de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
