Russell Eugene Gill was born on January 16, 1910, in Troxelville, Snyder County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Albert Wilson Gill and Flora Aumiller Gill. He was a dairy farmer before entering the service on May 6, 1943.
Russell served in the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 5, 1944, during the liberation of Vire, France. PFC Gill is now buried in the Union Cemetery, Troxelville, Snyder County, Pennsylvania, USA.
