Robert B. Gentry was born on November 11, 1920, in Green Spring, Washington County, Virginia. He was the son of Smith Berry Gentry and Nannie Belle Wise Gentry. He worked at a cement block manufacturing plant in Bristol before enlisting in the Army on December 11, 1942.
Robert served in the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 5, 1944, during the liberation of Vire, France. Pvt Gentry is now buried in the Morning View Cemetery, Bluff City, Sullivan County, Tennessee, USA.
