Gilbert Fomalont was born on February 10, 1906, in Carmel, Cumberland County, New Jersey. He was the son of Barney Fomalont and Eva Fomalont. He was initially married to Esther Tucker and later remarried to Lillian Feinstein.

Gilbert served in the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 7, 1944, during the liberation of Vire, France. Pvt Fomalont is now buried in the Mount Sharon Cemetery, Springfield, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, USA.
