Rudolph L. Marko was born on January 1, 1919, in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He was the son of Joseph Marko and Julia Novak Magyar. He worked for H.W. Hecker Company before enlisting in the army on April 6, 1942.
Rudolph served in the 397th Fighter Squadron, 368th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant and Pilot of P-47 Thunderbolt #42-75178 during World War II. Marko flew numerous missions, earning the Air Medal with eight Oak Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross. On August 1, 1944, while flying his P-47, named Julia, his plane crashed near Saint-Sever-Calvados when it hit trees during a vehicle strafing pass killing him instantly. 1Lt Marko is now buried in the Calvary Cemetery, Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, USA.
