Born on July 22, 1921. Shot down 9 October 1943 in B-17 #42-37718, Sgt Doug Farris was killed in Action (KIA) during a bombing run on Gdyna, Poland. The damaged aircraft was strafed by German fighters over Denmark on it's flight back to Thurleigh, England. It crashed on Samso Island, Denmark.
On October 9, 1943 he was on the crew of the B-17F #42-37718 during a mission over Denmark. They were shot down and crashed near Alstrup. Doug Farris was the only reported fatal casualty. He was killed in the air by a 20mm shell. All other crew members survived and were held as POWs.
