Charles P. Kemeny was born in 1921, in West Virginia. He was the son of Steve Kemeny and Julia M. Bartok Kemeny. He enlisted in the army on February 26, 1942.
Charles served in the 111th Engineer Combat Battalion, 36th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. PFC Kemeny was Killed in Action on August 25, 1944, during the liberation of Bonlieu-sur-Roubion, France. He is now buried in the Woodmere Cemetery, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, USA. He was posthumously promoted to Corporal. A Detroit playfield and a memorial at Holy Cross Church commemorate his legacy.
