Edwin Conrad Thompson was born on September 16, 1920, in Radcliffe, Hardin County, Iowa. He was the son of Clarence O. Thompson and Edna Elvina Hanson Thompson. He was married to Valerie Jeanne Pierce Thompson.
Edwin served in Company F, 1st Ranger Battalion, as a Sergeant during World War II. He was one of 50 US Army Rangers who participated with British Commando on the Dieppe raid in 1942. Thompson transferred to Company D, 4th Ranger Battalion.
On June 27, 1943, Thompson's feet were injured by a grenade blast and he had developed hepatitis and complications. He returned home on July 31, 1943, and was discharged from the hospital in September 1943. Sgt Thompson died on December 1, 2010, and is now buried in Mountain View Cemetery, San Bernardino, San Bernardino County, California, USA.
