Kenneth Duane Stempson was born on August 6, 1919, in Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota. He was the son of Oscar William Stempson Sr. and Marie Oline Klette Stempson. He was married to Elizabeth H. Hindman.

Kenneth served in the Headquarters Company, 1st Ranger Battalion, as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was one of 50 US Army Rangers who participated with British Commando on the Dieppe raid in 1942. Stempson landed and participated in active combat with the enemy. Stempson returned home on May 3, 1944, on the USS Edward Richardson with 197 other Rangers. He attended college after the war. When the Korean War broke out he entered the service again and died while still in the military with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. LtC Stempson died on May 28, 1967, and is now buried in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, City and County of Denver, Colorado, USA.
