John J. Knapp was the husband of Betty Bronwen. He served in Company C, 1st Ranger Battalion, as a Sergeant during World War II. He was one of 50 US Army Rangers who participated with British Commando on the Dieppe raid in 1942. He never landed on the beach but was hit while on gunboat #5 with artillery shell fragments in his leg which put him in a cast. After the war, John, Betty, and their first daughter returned to the US and lived in Warner Robins, Georgia. Sgt Knapp died on November 23, 2009, in Dayton Beach, Florida.
