Donald G. Johnson was born on August 9, 1918. He served in Company C, 1st Ranger Battalion, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was promoted to T/SGT and transferred to Company A. He was one of 50 US Army Rangers who participated with British Commando on the Dieppe raid in 1942. TSgt Johnson was awarded the Purple Heart after being injured in the thigh by a land mine in Italy in September of 1943. He returned to duty in October 1943. TSgt Johnson died on September 18, 1982, and is now buried in Consolata Cemetery, Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, USA.
