Mervin T. Heacock was born on September 7, 1919, in West Branch, Iowa. He was the son of Roscoe C. Heacock and Agnes C. Heacock. He was married to Mildred K. Heacock.

Heacock served in the 1st Ranger Battalion, as a Sergeant during World War II. He was one of 50 US Army Rangers who participated with British Commando on the Dieppe raid in 1942. He was wounded in action in Algeria in March of 1943. During his Ranger service in September 1943, he was involved in a serious motorcycle accident. He was discharged from the hospital in June 1944, after the Rangers were disbanded. Mervin finished his service as a Staff Sergeant. SSgt Heacock died on September 19, 1972, and is now buried in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA.
