Charles Franklin Grant was born on July 17, 1915, in Lindale, Georgia. He served in the 1st Ranger Battalion as a Private First Class during World War II. He was one of 50 US Army Rangers who participated with British Commando on the Dieppe raid in 1942. He was promoted to Technician 4th Grade and was wounded in Tunisia. Grant was in Company C, 1st Ranger Battalion throughout the entire tour. He was one of the 198 Rangers who returned home on the USS Edward Richardson on May 3, 1944. T4 Grant died on March 20, 1993, and is now buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee, USA.
