Howard W. Andre was born on April 27, 1920. He enlisted in the service on November 27, 1941. Andre served in the 1st Ranger Battalion as a Private First Class during World War II. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant and transferred to Company D, 4th Ranger Battalion. He was one of 50 US Army Rangers who participated with British Commando on the Dieppe raid in 1942. 2Lt Andre was Killed in Action on January 27, 1944, in Anzio, Italy. He is now buried in Leverington Cemetery, Roxborough, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA.
