Howard Irving Schwenden was born on October 15, 1925, in Alhambra, Los Angeles County, California. He was the son of Carl Alvin Schwenden and Blanche Riley Indart Schwenden. Howard served in the 410th Infantry Regiment, 103rd Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II. Pvt Schwenden was Killed in Action on November 29, 1944, during the liberation of Alsace, France. He is now buried in the Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial, Epinal, Departement des Vosges, Lorraine, France. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
