Francis Michael Passaro was born on September 23, 1920, in Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland. He was the son of Michael Passaro and Concetta Passaro. He was the husband of Sophia Carole Brogin Thomas. Francis served in the 410th Infantry Regiment, 103rd Infantry Division, as a Second Lieutenant during World War II. He served as a Platoon leader of the 3rd platoon on December 20, 1944.
On March 15, 1945, his company was advancing through the town of Urhwiller when the forward elements of the 3rd Platoon came under intense enemy fire. 2Lt Passaro left his covered position and moved forward under fire to more accurately direct fire onto the engaged German troops. From an exposed position, 2Lt Passaro directed bazooka fire into the enemy's strong point. During the fight, Passaro was Killed in Action. He is now buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, USA. He was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.
