ISOB W. H. Bill Tucker - 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment
William Humphrey Tucker Jr. was born on September 8, 1923, in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. He was the son of William Humphrey Tucker Sr. and Marion Louise Thomas. He was a decorated World War II veteran who served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division.
He participated in key battles, including the D-Day invasion of Normandy, where he made a combat jump into Sainte-Mère-Église. After being injured during the Battle of the Bulge, he ended his military service as a sergeant, receiving numerous awards, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Post-war, Tucker became a prominent figure in the 82nd Airborne Association and wrote several books on his wartime experiences. He also had a successful legal and public service career, serving under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. Despite his accomplishments, Tucker was known for his humility and deep patriotism. He passed away at 84, in 2008, and his ashes were interred at a monument in Fresville, France. His ashes are specifically located within a small plaque on the side of the monument dedicated to his unit.
